Policy priorities

Fair competition and enforcement

A level playing field for lawful businesses, supported by effective action against illicit commerce.

On this page

Our objective

Ensure businesses following the rules are supported by credible, consistent enforcement and sound public policy.

What better policy looks like

  • Better understanding of the commercial effects of illicit trade.
  • Coordination between lawful-trade administration and appropriate enforcement.
  • Transparent evidence and careful attribution when discussing public revenue and market impacts.

The evidence that matters

Describe a policy or administrative issue without identifying or accusing another business. Suspected illegal activity should be reported directly to the appropriate authority.

Scope and context

CAC is an advocacy association, not an enforcement agency. Reports of suspected cross-border contraband or commercial trade fraud should go to CBSA.
